Want to see three and a half hours of uninterrupted Mickey Mouse? Buy this DVD set and you will have the chance. There are some nice introductions by Leonard Maltin, a few extras with Walt Disney, and tons and tons of cartoons. Donald, Goofy, Pluto and Minnie are in almost all of these cartoons. Being a big Donald and Goofy fan, I was really glad to see my old friends. 
The animation is top notch, just like you would expect from Disney. The 'plots' of these cartoons are kind of weak, but hey, they are between five and ten minutes long.
I guess I was expecting more of a story from them than the collection of gags that were strung together. Oh well, they were entertaining anyway.

The audio on these DVDs is pretty good. It does sound a bit shrill compared. This is a wonderful collection of delightful cartoons. Only some of them have been available on VHS (or VCD) in recent years, sometimes in 'colorized' versions.
It's an eye-opener to see the original black-and-white animation, which is technically more primitive, but not inferior in energy or artistry, to the color animation that soon displaced it. I have three reservations. First, the collection is not complete. Given that this is a canon that will not be expanded and is not often reissued, it could and should have included all the MM b&w cartoons from 1928 to 1935.

This is a great, corny anthology series that is very similar to the feel of an episode of 'Leave It To Beaver' episode with hints of the movie 'Pollyanna.' The DVD is terrific, and it's easy to watch all the episodes in this serial in one sitting. The picture is super sharp, and it's very much about going back in time, and seeing what was 'representative' of a teenager back in the 50's in a perfect world where hayrides, barbecues, malt shops, and sing-alongs are the norm. It is strange to see a completely white teenage world.
With that said, I do wish Disney had a play all feature. Each time an episode ends (and some of them last no more. Mickey Mouse in Living Color Vol. 2 is a great dvd package. Included are some very entertaining shorts and featurettes, many of which I had forgotten until I just viewed them again. In my opinion, I prefer the shorts on Vol.1, but it is nice to finally have the whole collection to enjoy forever.
A lot of people have complained here that Leonard Maltin's introductions to some of the shorts are annoying and unnecessary. I agree to an extent, that they can get repetitive. But Maltin was a major player in getting this great material released to the public in all of its uncensored glory. It does seem rediculous that we need to put shorts like 'Mr.

Although this DVD set is mostly a giant advertisement for Disneyland and Disney World, this set is a must have for Disney fans and Disney research. Considering that for the price, you are getting 6 DVDs with about 6 hours worth of material. In those 6 hours, you get a lot of information that is valuable for study.
